Fees

Performance

The below table is for a performance call for a hired performance up to three (3) hours and is not an Artist Fee.

When commissioning new performance work, the artist is paid an artist fee to develop the new work as per NAVA’s fee schedule for Artist Fees (new work), and production costs are to include performer wages as per the Live Performance Award (LPA).

If the performance work already exists and re-staging of the work in a new context is minimal, then the artist will be paid a Loan Fee and it is good practice for the gallery to cover any additional costs for this performance (i.e. travel, accommodation, rehearsal, additional performer wages, technical support).

Where re-staging an existing performance requires a level of work close to the scale of creating a new work, the artist and gallery should refer to the Artist Fees (new work) and Loan Fees tables to determine an appropriate fee which may be somewhere between these numbers.

Fees do not include GST or Superannuation.

Case Study

Kirra has been commissioned to make a new painting for a group exhibition and is paid a $2,000 artist fee plus a separate production fee for canvas, paint and framing. Jarrah is developing a performance work for the same exhibition. They are also paid a $2,000 artist fee plus a production fee. The production fee should be enough to cover costumes, rehearsal venue, and all the performers wages (i.e the hourly rate for the $226.63 performance rate per performer for a 3 hour call). Higher rates apply if the performance is durational or is on a Sunday etc. (i.e. the performance rate needs to increase as per the LPA).
