Checklist

When commissioning a new work:

• decide upon the commissioning process

• plan and budget for the full process, from concept to future presentations

• consider cultural safety and allow adequate time for consultation  

• decide accessibility priorities from the outset

• develop foundation documents through respectful conversation

• understand power dynamics and consider administrative burdens on artists

• be prepared to negotiate flexibly, in case things change

• plan for ‘after the commission'
